Our path began with an initiative to preserve the forest. In other words, the main aim of the hotel is to promote conservation. Providing well-planned, comfortable and safe experiences is the means whereby our goals are achieved.
One of the largest forest reserves in the Amazon, the Cristalino Reserve covers more than 11,000 hectares, an area almost twice the size of Manhattan Island (NY), which are protected by the hotel. That is why the forest is in such pristine condition and so rich in biodiversity.
The southern Amazon is in a region of transition to the neighboring biomes of the Pantanal and the Cerrado. That is why the Cristalino area has such a rich diversity of species. One can observe a variety of mammals, including 9 species of monkeys, giant river otters, peccaries and tapirs, as well as nearly 600 species of birds. Because we are in a protected private reserve, the animals do not flee when they see humans. For all these reasons, Cristalino Lodge is considered the best place in the entire Amazon to observe the fauna.

Cristalino Lodge adopts sustainable architecture that values and respects nature. Special systems are used for the treatment of effluent and wastewater, solar water heating, solar energy, and the separation and recycling of waste, all geared to minimizing the impact of our activities, including the limited number of guests per guide. Cristalino Lodge has been presented with a number of sustainability awards, including Condé Nast Traveller World Savers Awards.
Whether they come from the Alta Floresta region or from other parts of Brazil, our guides are highly qualified, with deep knowledge of the Amazon forest and the region's biomes. They include the leading connoisseurs of birds in Brazil and they are passionate about the rainforest.
Through the Cristalino Foundation, for more than a decade, Cristalino Lodge has been a partner in the performing of cutting-edge scientific research, alongside some of the world’s leading universities and institutes. Under this initiative, the first survey of plants and trees in the southern Amazon was carried out, cataloging more than 1,000 species. There is always some research in progress at Cristalino Lodge, which is often shared with the guests.
