The area of forest preserved by Cristalino Lodge absorbs thousands of tons of carbon from the atmosphere. By visiting the Cristalino Lodge you are contributing to the preservation of the Cristalino RPPN, which yields numerous benefits for the climate and protects the biodiversity of the region.

Moreover, every night that you spend at the Lodge helps to guarantee the employment of 7 staff members, which in turn contributes to responsible tourism as part of the regional economy. Visits to the Lodge also contribute towards the important education, research and conservation efforts of the Cristalino Ecological Foundation.

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

Rooms powered by photovoltaic panels, from 60 solar panels generating 2.3 MW per month.
Water heating using solar power.
Treatment of wastewater - from the sink and shower - through an organic permaculture system.
Treatment of effluents - from the toilet - through a system of filter layers and an evapotranspiration basin.
Intelligent architectural design, adopting a natural ventilation system and using large screened windows.

RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

Use of biodegradable cleaning products.
Bed linen and towels changed on a rational basis, to avoid wasting energy and water.
Separating and recycling of inorganic waste (plastic, metal, glass and paper).
Complimentary aluminium bottles for the convenient water consumption of each visitor.
Serving organic fruits and vegetables, whenever they’re available.
Use of local ingredients, such as Brazil-nuts, açaí, cocoa, cupuaçu, honey from wild bees, peachpalm and fish from sustainable fishing, for our delicious Amazonian cuisine.
Composting of 100% of organic waste.

MINIMUM IMPACT

Limiting groups to a maximum of 8 visitors per group, to reduce the impact on the trail while improving the chances of spotting wildlife.
Prohibiting the feeding of wildlife, in order to avoid influencing their ability to obtain food or make them dependent on humans.
Staff training in the responsible use of resources and proper guiding of visitors on the trails.
Signing of the WTTC Travel & Tourism Declaration on Illegal Trade in Wildlife.
Responsible management of the Cristalino reserves, through the Cristalino Foundation committee, comprising biologists, scientists and administrators.

FOREST CONSERVATION

The preservation of a large area of primary forest has been made possible by the Lodge’s mission and responsible tourism practices.

Cristalino Lodge is conserving a reserve covering 11,399 hectares of primary forest - an area almost twice the size of Manhattan Island, which sequesters thousands of tons of carbon from the atmosphere. These efforts were recognized when the Lodge won the Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Awards, one of the leading sustainability awards in the global hospitality sphere.
