SIERRA TRAILS

WALKING IN THE UPLANDS
OF THE CRISTALINO RESERVE

The hills in the Cristalino area are relatively high, considering the wider Amazon terrain, ranging between 250 and 450 meters (820 and 1,470 feet) above sea level. And even a small variation in the terrain is enough to radically change the vegetation and the species that live there.

View from the Cristalino uplands (sierras).

SIERRA TRAIL I

Following a short boat ride, this trail begins with a short walk through a forest of tall trees, then there is sloping terrain that takes the visitor to the top of the highlands. On the way up, you can see a significant change in the types of trees, leaving the terra firma forest behind and entering the deciduous forest. This activity requires familiarity in coping with sloping terrain.
Duration:
3 and a half to 4 and a half hours.
Difficulty level:
Moderate.

COCOA SIERRA TRAIL

Not far from the Sierra Trai I, this trail runs through a beautiful transitional forest growing on the slopes of this range of hills. Upon reaching the top, there is a lovely view of the forested valley below. This activity requires familiarity in coping with sloping terrain.
Duration:
4 to 5 hours.
Difficulty level:
Moderate.

SIERRA TRAIL II

Following a short boat ride, this trail begins with a walk through an area of large trees, including Brazil nut, until you reach a rocky slope. The terrain then becomes sharply inclined, taking visitors up to one of the highest points in the region. This activity requires familiarity in coping with sloping terrain and longer walks.
Duration:
4 to 5 and a half hours.
Difficulty level:
Moderate to Advanced.

VALLEY TRAIL

Following a 40-minute boat ride, this trail begins with a short hike through terra firma forest, then the transition to deciduous forest, to the first rocky plateau. From that point, another 20 minutes of walking takes visitors to a viewing point where one can enjoy the beautiful scenery in the valley below that gives the trail its name. This activity requires familiarity in coping with sloping terrain.
Duration:
4 to 5 and a half hours
Difficulty level:
Moderate to Advanced
