WORLD SAVERS AWARD WINNER

CONDÉ NAST TRAVELER

the Cristalino Lodge was a winner of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Awards.

Seventeen judges reviewed the 142 applications and looked at how the companies were practicing social responsibility in five areas: cultural and/or environmental preservation, poverty reduction, education, wildlife conservation and health. Thirty-eight finalists were selected and the winners were ranked by compiling the judges’ final scores.

The finalists were honored at the World Savers Awards ceremony, held in New York on September 23, 2008, as part of the Condé Nast Traveler 2nd annual gathering. The Cristalino Lodge was listed in the September 2008 issue as one of 38 businesses around the world that was considered a leader in terms of social responsibility.

Dorinda Elliott, the magazine’s special projects editor, said, "These finalists are the most important examples of how hotels, airlines, shipping companies and tour operators around the world can inspire their partners to improve the world in which we live. The efforts of these World Savers, which range from building schools to providing medical supplies, restocking wildlife reserves and providing micro credit, are examples for the entire tourism industry."

Vitoria Da Riva Carvalho, owner of the Cristalino Lodge, responded that, "We are proud of this international recognition by Condé Nast Traveler for the environmental conservation work being carried out in the Cristalino Private Natural Heritage Reserve."
